A rice mill cooperative in the Bangladesh delta aggregates paddy from smallholder member-farmers across multiple villages. During the monsoon harvest window, freshly cut paddy arrives at collection points with moisture content well above the safe storage threshold.
Without mechanical drying, grain left in these conditions begins to sprout, ferment, or develop mold and aflatoxin within 48 hours. Smallholders lose a significant share of their harvest every season — and are forced to sell immediately at low prices rather than risk storage.
The cooperative lacks capital for a fixed drying plant and needs drying capacity at multiple dispersed collection points. A mobile solution that can be towed between villages and set up quickly is the only viable option for protecting the monsoon harvest.
