In-direct Heating

Despite the 25–35% energy loss, industrial clients at the 100- 500 MTPD level still choose indirect heating for two critical reasons:

  1. Grain Purity (Food Grade): If you burn coal, wood, or low-quality biomass directly, sulfur, ash, and smoke odors will contaminate the grain. For rice or flour-mill corn, this is a “rejection” risk. The heat exchanger ensures only clean, fresh hot air touches the crop.

  2. Fire Safety: Indirect systems keep the “flame” and “sparks” physically separated from the highly flammable grain dust. This is a major insurance requirement for large-scale silo terminals.

  3. Fuel Cost : Even though an indirect system loses ~25% of its heat through the chimney, the raw cost of the fuels used is so much lower that it still saves on the fuel bills.

The most critical advantage for a 150-500 MTPD industrial dryer is 24/7 continuous operation.

Automatic Filling: the system transit raw materials in real-time, eliminating the need to stop the burner for refueling.

Waste Chain Discharger: Crucially, the chain-discharger removes ash while the fire is raging. If this discharge were manual, the fire would have to be periodically extinguished to clean the firebox, causing costly thermal down-time and dryer temperature fluctuations.
